The Drill, the Pond, and the String

Dominika Sadowska & Karol Stolarek

W Y Gallery / Łódź / PL

opening: December 19, 2025, 7 p.m.

The Drill, the Pond, and the String
is an exhibition by Dominika Sadowska and Karol Stolarek that attempts to simulate a specific sensory experience. The artists combine the presence of objects, their kinetic qualities, and an expanded sound layer, creating a situation in which the viewer moves between levels of a space governed by principles of rhythm, auditory frequency, and kinetics.

The exhibition architecture is divided into levels, each operating with its own set of rhythmic, sonic, and spatial relationships. The objects function as active elements within the system?resonating, responding, and mutually modulating one another?s actions. The whole is structured according to a logic akin to acoustic and motion-based models, producing a kind of dynamic audiovisual environment.

The titular drill, pond, and string serve as metaphorical points of reference. Their symbolic fields of meaning are translated into the movement of matter, its sonic emanation, and the sensorial quality of space, which the viewer does not so much observe as co-create through their own presence. In this way, the exhibition becomes a haptic?sonic experience, open to interpretive flows and individual trajectories of perception.
